About Velipoje.

Velipoje is located on the north side of Albanian Adriatic Sea, within the county of Shkodra, during the communism time, Velipoje was only a fishing village. Now is booming with hotels and private houses. Velipojë has a population of around 10,000, spread over several small settlements, the largest of which is the town of Velipojë itself.

The Albanian National Tourism Agency opens summer season opening ceremony in Velipoja first of May (Shkodra). The NTA staff supported the activity with a photo-gallery exhibition of the best views of Velipoja. Also different brochures, maps and catalogs .On the other hand, the NTA invites tourists through the television to visit this year Velipoja which has made a lot of investment in infrastructure and services.

There is live music and local food presented by NTA for local to enoy the upcoming season of hote weather with sea, sand and tourists.

If you need to get out from sea and sand for a day or two, there is always so much to do in the city of Shkodra, which is only 9klm from Velipoje beach. There is so much to discover, ancient culture and Albanian culture today.

Shkodra ,known as the “capital of north Albania” it is one of the oldest cities in the country, founded in the 4th century B.C. as the centre of the Labeat tribe of Illyrians.

Things to do in the City.

Rozafa castle comes with a popular local legend. Rozafa was the name of the bride of the youngest of three brothers who originally built the castle. Historic Museum and the Marubi Atelier of Photography.

The art of photography in Albania begins about the middle of the 19-th century, with a first studio opened in 1858 by Pjeter Marubi in Shkodra-at that time one of the most important cities of Albania.

The Flower's Day in Shkoder.

Today in 6 of May the main urban center of north Albania, Shkodra has celebrated “The Day of Flowers” . In addition to their love for bikes , the citizens of Shkodra , has continually show a great interest and attention to flowers and the city is known for its attractive gardens too.

Visit Lake Scutari, which is the largest lake in the Balkans and has clear waters for swimming and best local fish in the region, to enjoy some traditional shkodra dish. `peshk n`tavev.


The Beach of Velipoja

Velipojë is situated on the estuary of the Buna river (the only navigable river of Albania), where it flows into the Adriatic Sea while constituting the natural border with Montenegro.

Its economy is based on agriculture (arable land and livestock, sheep and cattle), some fishing, highly in tourism summer season. The scenery is largely unspoilt: a mixture of sea-coast, river estuary, heathland, thick pine woods, farmland, and high mountains. It has been remarked by visitors that the heathland to the north of Velipoja is very reminiscent of Scottish scenery. A nature reserve lies within the commune. The area is a prime site for birdwatching, game shooting and fishing. A long, sandy beach with a seaside promenade is a popular attraction in summer.

The area has many small hotels and guest houses. There is a market, where local farmers sell their produce. In the commune, there is a church-sponsored kindergarten, several primary schools, two secondary schools, and one gymnasium. There is also a small theatre and a thriving local football team, KS Ada Velipojë and ground.


Bars and restaurants in Velipoje

There are so many option and verity of different bars and restaurants within the main square, in the heart of the beach itself. With great Albanian and Mediterranean cuisine, there is good mixture of cuisine if you really like food you are on the right place. First you start with traditional Albanian cuisine, `Peshk n`tave, Albanian Byrek, BBQ fish, and of course the best local seafood. There also, Italian, Greek and Turkish cuisine. So you have a good mixture of verity of food.

There are plenty of little bars across the beach line, facing the sea, a few night clubs, Velipoje is more known for family time and relaxation. But the city is not so far, so you wish a crazy night out with local people. There are jazz bars and late night clubs in the city of Shkodra.
